The set of rules, controls, policies, and procedures that are put in place to direct and oversee corporate behavior.
Corporate governance is a subset of enterprise governance in a family enterprise governance system.
A family enterprise that owns a family business, operating company, or other business entity creates governance structures and procedures to manage the operation of the business, independent of other assets and entities the enterprise may own. These structures and procedures are likely to include corporate management structures and boards of directors, either in a fiduciary or advisory capacity. Depending on the jurisdiction and legal structure of the business, aspects of corporate governance may be mandated under regulatory and compliance regimens.
